Andropause

The gradual hormonal shift in midlife men is real, measurable, and responsive to treatment.

Unlike female menopause, andropause unfolds gradually — which is why most men miss it. The fatigue, the belly weight that won't shift, the flattening of motivation and mood — these develop so slowly that they get attributed to stress or aging rather than a measurable hormonal decline. Identifying it early changes the trajectory significantly.

1–2% Per Year

Testosterone declines at roughly 1–2% annually after age 30. The cumulative effect over two decades is substantial — and the rate is accelerated by lifestyle factors that are directly modifiable.

SHBG Rises With Age

As men age, SHBG increases, binding more testosterone and leaving less free and available. This means free testosterone declines faster than total testosterone — making SHBG measurement essential.

Not Inevitable

Men of the same age can have profoundly different hormonal profiles. Sleep quality, body composition, stress management, and nutrition determine how much of the age-related decline is accelerated or blunted.
